2025 World’s Fair of Money® Money Talks Schedule
Money Talks are free, 30- to 45-minute educational presentations led by some of the hobby’s most noted authorities.
Programs are offered Thursday and Friday, August 21–22, 2025, in Room 201 of the Oklahoma City Convention Center. These engaging sessions deliver expert insights in a relaxed, interactive setting. All programs are open to show attendees.
Thursday, August 21
10:00 a.m. — Ten (or So) Trends That Are Shaping the Coin Hobby Today
Presenter: Steve Roach
Steve Roach leads a lively discussion about some of the biggest trends in coin collecting and the rare-coin market. His presentation also examines how the stories making news today might impact the way we collect coins tomorrow.
Bio: Steve Roach is a lifelong coin collector and editor-at-large of Coin World, the world’s largest coin hobby publication.
11:00 a.m. — Making Small Change in the 18th Century: Coins, William Wood, and the King’s Mistress
Presenter: Franklin L. Noel
Over 300 years ago, William Wood, whose family owned iron and copper mines, proposed a solution to the severe small-change shortage in Ireland and the American colonies. But first he had to navigate the politics of England’s first Hanoverian king. This talk explores how Wood’s Hibernia and Rosa Americana coins came to be—and what became of them.
Bio: Franklin Noel has been an ANA member since 1980. He has published articles in numerous numismatic journals and has presented for the ANA, Early American Coppers, and the Newman Numismatic Portal Symposium.
1:00 p.m. — From Paper to Bronze: Creating the 2025 ANA Convention Medal
Presenters: Jamie Franki and Heidi Wastweet
Jamie Franki and Heidi Wastweet offer a deep dive into the traditional and modern techniques used to design and sculpt this year’s ANA convention medal.
Bios:
- Jamie Franki, a U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program alumnus, is the designer of the 2005 Buffalo nickel reverse and the Jefferson nickel obverse (2006–present). He is one of the most prolific designers of ANA convention medals.
- Heidi Wastweet, recipient of the 2024 ANA Numismatic Art Award for Excellence in Medallic Sculpture, is a past president of the American Medallic Sculpture Association and a former member of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee.
2:00 p.m. — Road Trip! Collecting the Traveling Coins of Hadrian
Presenter: Kirk Van Brunt
Hadrian ruled the Roman Empire at its peak and issued coins to commemorate his travels. These coins remain one of the most popular and accessible ancient series.
Bio: Kirk Van Brunt is the founder of Argenteus Rare Coins and specializes in ancient Roman coinage. A Harvard-trained lawyer, he is also a published fiction author.
Friday, August 22
10:00 a.m. — ANA Show Eagle: A Tribute to the Largest Coin Show in the U.S.
Presenters: Chang Bullock and Joel Iskowitz
An in-depth look at the creation of the ANA Show Eagle series, including design elements and the collaborative process.
Bios:
- Chang Bullock is founder of Minted Assets, a global modern coin company. He is a lifelong numismatist with over 30 years of industry experience.
- Joel Iskowitz is a former U.S. Mint designer who has created dozens of U.S. coins and global numismatic treasures. He designed the ANA Show Eagle series.
11:00 a.m. — Numismatics Noir: Where Culture and Currency Collide
Presenter: Jen Ingram
This session highlights how Numismatics Noir uses coins to celebrate cultural identity and tell underrepresented stories.
Bio: Jen Ingram is an award-winning business leader and founder of two companies. In 2022, she launched Numismatics Noir to preserve Black history through coins and inspire diverse communities to engage with the hobby.
1:00 p.m. — Bolivia’s 19th Century Proclamation Coinage
Presenter: Ron Burkard
Explore Bolivia’s historic silver proclamation coins—used to announce new governments, leaders, and constitutions in the 19th century.
Bio: Ron Burkard spent 30 years in international relief and development and developed his passion for coins while living in Bolivia during the 1970s and ’80s.
2:00 p.m. — Quest for the Complete Issues of the Winterhulp/Secours d’Hiver in Occupied Belgium, 1941–44
Presenter: Marcus Turner
A look at Belgium’s WWII-era Winterhulp program, Nazi occupation policies, and the resulting numismatic and propaganda issues.
Bio: Marcus Turner specializes in WWII emergency and propaganda currency. He is a past president of the International Bank Note Society and a respected researcher, exhibitor, and author in the field.
